Notice in this verse brothers & sisters, that while it is absolutely true that God has promised to keep you in perfect peace... there is a requirement on your part listed there as well... something you MUST do in order to receive that peace!
What is it? Don't guess... Look again at the verse in the image above. You must keep your mind stayed on Him!
I know that in our world today, this seems like a tough task. But it CAN be done... it is just a matter of choice! Every moment of every day... when the world is going nuts around you... CHOOSE to keep your mind stayed on the awesome love and care that our God has for YOU and for all of us! Then... and only then... will He be able to melt all the anxiety and turmoil from your life!
The craziness and distractions of the world around us aren't the only things that can keep us from tapping into the peace that God has for us, though... there is another factor involved here that is even harder to recognize in ourselves... one that many can't see... very simply put, it is 'habit'. We all have habits, and they are really good things to have in place, as long as they are the right ones!
In this area though, our habits can also hinder us from tapping into the peace that God has provided for us! If, in the course of our daily lives, we have learned what things give us 'peace and comfort' and what things don't, and then we turn to those things regularly when we feel a need for peace and for comfort this establishes a habit. It becomes familiar and almost automatic without us even recognizing it. What happens then if we have established those habits around things that change... things in this world... or people? What happens when we seek those things for the peace and comfort we need and all of a sudden they have changed and no longer provide desired result? We become lost, disturbed and full of anxiety. It is at times like these that, if we are courageous enough to admit it to ourselves, the Spirit of God can reveal to us that we have placed our hope and faith in the wrong place.
You see, God NEVER changes and He is ALWAYS constant, predictable, and consistent in everything that He does and says! That is why we must always keep our mind on Him... we must look to Him for our peace and comfort, and not the ever changing things of this world... and especially not people because they change rapidly and often! But if we establish the HABIT of only relying on Him for EVERYTHING that we need... including our sense of peace and safety. THEN we set ourselves up to personally witness the truth in this verse come to pass in our hearts and lives!
I encourage you to change your habits today, brothers & sisters... when the world tries to distract you with "Breaking News" or any other attention grabbing thing... when you discover that the things or people that used to give you a sense of peace and well-being have changed... just STOP... and refocus your mind on Him and make Him the source of ALL your well-being and peace... and do it consistently every time to form that habit. Then that wonderful "...peace that passes all understanding..." will flood your being and restore the calm to your seas!
Always remember brothers and sisters... the choice is yours on the thoughts that you think and the ones you allow to dwell in your mind! Pay close attention to the verse below... it is very similar in concept to the one above... namely, YOU have a choice on what you think on... YOU have the ability to bring this peace of God into you own life! God has already given it to you... now all you have to do is follow His instructions and then YOU will tap into it.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things.
The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. - Phillipians 4:8-9
We love you all and are praying that each day will be spent choosing to bask in the presence and PEACE that only our God can bring!
